The Russian Embassy in Germany protested over the expulsion of two diplomats

The Russian Embassy in Berlin called the expulsion of two Russian diplomats unmotivated in connection with the verdict in the case of the murder in Berlin of the Chechen field commander, citizen of Georgia Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. The Russian diplomatic department lodged a strong protest, calling the move unfriendly. “We confirm that on December 15, 2021, the Russian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany was informed by the leadership of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany about the decision of the German authorities to declare two diplomatic employees of the embassy persona non grata. For our part (we - "Kommersant") lodged a resolute protest, stressing that such unmotivated actions represent an obvious unfriendly step and will not be left without an appropriate reaction that will follow in the near future, ”the diplomatic mission told reporters (quoted by TASS ). Today, December 15, the Supreme Court of Berlin sentenced Russian Vadim Sokolov (also known as Krasikov) to life in prison. According to the court's version, the convict killed Khangoshvili, who was considered a terrorist in Russia, on the instructions of the Russian authorities. After the murder of Khangoshvili in 2019, two employees of the Russian embassy were expelled from Germany. The German side then considered that Russia had provided "insufficient assistance" in the investigation of the murder. Moscow responded in a mirror-like manner and expelled two employees of the FRG embassy.
